This was my first major project after starting #WARINDUSTRIALSERVICES. A local entrepreneur hired me to design and manage the installation of a new heavy duty Palfinger knuckle boom crane system with a subsystem to operate auxiliary hydraulic systems like a low boy or walking floor.
I worked with his mechanic to design and build the mount and I focused on the design, procurement, and installation of the crane and associated hydraulic system. WAR installed the PTO, pump, plumbing, main system relief valve(set prior to use), diverter valve, crane directional valve, and auxiliary directional control valve.
WAR then utilized our mobile crane to pick and place the mount and the new knuckle boom on the truck frame. WAR fastened and torqued the mounting tie rods to manufacturer specification. After that it was a matter of testing the system performance with pressure transducers and flow meter/load cell. Doing this ensured that all of relief valves were set properly and the directional valves worked as desired.
The last order of business was commissioning the unit per Palfinger specification and then testing final torque on the tie rod connectors.
